The University of Madeira organized the initial meeting of the HOST-EG project

 

The University of Madeira (UMa) was the host of the start meeting of the HOST-EG Project, which aims to promote sustainable growth and employment through strengthening the capabilities of higher education in the field of hospitality and tourism in Equatorial Guinea.

In this inaugural meeting, which took place on the 19th and 20th of September, in the Rectory Building, at the Jesuit College, 15 members of the four universities that make up the consortium participated: National University of Equatorial Guinea, the Afro-American University of Central Africa, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Madeira. The coordinators of the HOST-EG project at UMa are Ricardo Correia and Carmen Freitas, professors at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The welcome session was in charge of UMa’s Vice-Rector for the areas of Internationalization, Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Elsa Fernandes, with this meeting being essential for the partners to get to know each other and better understand the role of each of them. In the development of the project, as well as to debate ideas, align strategies and plan activities to be developed in the coming months.

The HOST-EG project is financed by the European Union, through the Erasmus+ Program, for a value of €350,343.00, and among its main objectives is the creation of training actions, starting with a tailor-made training program , focused on promoting sustainable tourism in Equatorial Guinea and without increasing employment creation. In addition to the training program, the person will be equipped to advise on skills and guidance to students, in order to promote the updating of independent knowledge and the ability to establish solid links with key agents in the emerging industry as a strategic tool to form solutions for the operating system. your problems.

The achievement of these goals will provide the Equatorial Guinea community with specific knowledge and skills to effectively manage and create businesses in the sector that allow attracting and retaining tourists with a special focus on National Protected Areas and the protection of the country’s biodiversity.
